Jazeera Airways orders 28 Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft

Jazeera Airways has confirmed an order for 28 Airbus A320neo family aircraft. The Kuwaiti airline's order includes 20 A320neo aircraft and 8 A321neo aircraft, and confirms a Memorandum of Understanding announced in November 2021.

In an Airbus press release, Jazeera Airways' CEO Rohit Ramachandran said: "We are pleased to confirm this latest order with Airbus. By taking both A320neo and A321neo versions we will have great flexibility to extend our network to medium and longer haul destinations from Kuwait, offering passengers more choice to travel and enjoy popular destinations as much as underserved ones".

This order follows a trend of improving utilisation and financial performance at the airline. Jazeera recently announced a return to profits, posting a net profit of $23.4 million USD in 2021. Reduced travel restrictions have further aided a recovery in utilisation,

According to InsightIQ fleet data, the Jazeera Airways fleet totals 17 active aircraft as of mid-February 2022, consisting of 8 Airbus A320ceo and 9 Airbus A320neo jets. These aircraft are managed by a mix of aircraft lessors, including IBC, Avolon Aerospace, Goshawk, Pioneer Aircraft Finance, AerCap and ALAFCO.

Whilst no engine choice has been publicly confirmed for the ordered aircraft, it is likely the carrier will select the CFM LEAP-1A family engines, in line with the power plants of their existing A320neo fleet.
