Latin America first exceeded pre-pandemic capacity levels in May 2022 and has continued to track above all other regions. As of September 2022, flight capacity in Latin America exceeded 2019 levels by 2%.

The Latin America region is largely dominated by domestic operations, with around 75% of flights that departed from South American airports in 2019 bound for domestic destinations. That high proportion of domestic flights, coupled with a strong domestic recovery, has helped to drive the region to its leading position in capacity recovery globally.

Conversely, flight capacity in the Asia Pacific region took a hit in September 2022, largely driven by further outbreaks of Covid-19 across China, coupled with ongoing travel restrictions.

Colombia has staged the strongest recovery at a country level, with capacity in September 2022 exceeding 2019 levels by 24%.
