New generation narrowbody aircraft show the greatest value strength

New generation narrowbody aircraft are exhibiting positive value trends, according to aviation intelligence published in IBA's latest aircraft values update webinar.

IBA's InsightIQ indicates that market values for the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft families are trending back towards base. The A320neo family has a premium over the competing MAX, but the Boeing narrowbody is bouncing back and closing the value gap with the A320neo. The lack of MAX certification in some areas, most notably China and Russia, is contributing to these trends. It is likely that certification of the MAX in the Russian Federation is likely to be delayed further following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

New aircraft market values are close to base for Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX family aircraft.

  • Airbus A320neo - 96.5% of base value

  • Boeing 737 MAX - 94.4% of base value

Boeing 737-800 family holds a premium in previous generation narrowbody aircraft values

Values are recovering across most previous generation narrowbody aircraft, with the Boeing 737-800 holding a premium over the competing Airbus A320ceo family. Previous generation aircraft values have benefitted from a resurgence in demand for engines, and the Boeing 737-800 is benefiting from stronger P2F demand and less fleet dispersion (due to Boeing 737 MAX aircraft replacement).

IBA anticipates the value gap between the Airbus A320ceo and Boeing 737-800 families to narrow further once the MAX is globally certified, and deliveries ramp up.

IBA's expert valuations team publish aircraft values updates twice per year, in February and July. Please note that these aircraft values were published before the onset of the Ukraine crisis. IBA will continue to monitor the situation and adjust values as appropriate. For further details about our aircraft valuations services, please contact Mike Yeomans. Director, Valuations.
