The commercial team are not long back from the AFJ Tokyo conference. Some of the themes discussed at the conference mirror a recent article that our senior analysts have worked on. Joining up with MRO Network, our insight on top 10 lessors and mid-life aircraft market trends looks at the robust market for mid-life aircraft and highlights the “watch outs” –higher maintenance reserves, record keeping and lease returns. It was a surprise to hear of the rejection of the Alitalia restructuring plan by the unions. The FT covered it really well and if you think you might be impacted click here to read our slides on managing risk, or or sign up for our defaults and repossession seminar on 25th May in London, contact email@example.com for more details.
Speaking of managing risk, when I read my quotes around appraisals in AFJ to myself following an investment day earlier this week, they do appear a little robust. They also highlight increasing frustration in the sector with differences in appraiser’s values – both issuers, investors and appraisers themselves.
Both Boeing and Airbus have released Q1 results. Airbus recorded a 52% drop in adjusted operating profit, with supplier issues on the 320neo mentioned as a contributing cause. Boeing fared better, recording an increase in profits while revenue was a little down like for like. For both OEMs, the results highlight that even with the huge backlogs and increasing production capacity, aircraft manufacturing and assembly still holds challenges for the world’s largest manufacturers of aircraft.
