Newswatch 02/10/2017

It is always a sad day when I hear of a demise of an operator. Monarch had survived when others had not.  I recall my own experience of being an Air Europe employee when the administrators arrived. For thousands of employees their world has been turned upside down for a while, and for them all I can say is that good airline staff are always in demand.

Yet at ISTAT EMEA in Edinburgh last week and no doubt in Dubai this week the forecasts will all be about underlying air traffic growth at 7%. It is easy to generalise and today is a reminder that the devil is in the detail……keep a close eye on operators, they are all different, do not generalise.

This years ISTAT EMEA proved particularly prosperous, we showcased our new data analysis platform IBA iQ and received a great response. Throughout the conference we noticed a lot of noise around freighter conversions, it seemed to be a key point of interest across all sectors of the industry. Moshe Haimovich, EVP Head of Freighter Advisory, and Owen Geach, Chief Commercial Officer, will be attending the Cargofacts Symposium in Miami this week. If you would like to arrange a meeting to talk freighters or any other matter email: Moshe.Haimovich@iba.aero. In the meantime, our freighter white paper is available here.

October is looking like another particularly busy month of conferences for IBA. I am heading to Dubai to speak at both the Airline Economics Growth Frontiers and the 15th Annual Middle East & North Africa Airfinance Conference. Feel free to drop me a line if you would like to catch up.

We will also be running a Market Update webinar on October 10th. This session promises to summarise the current market situation and aims to form a picture of what can be expected moving into 2018. You can register your interest here for the 8.30 BST session or here for the 16.30 BST event. If you would like to see a preview of what will be covered, take at look at Stuart Hatcher’s commentary on A320-200 & 737-800s lease ends and a potential collision of factors on the supply side that could impact on values and rentals. It is available in the September issue of Liebo’s Leasing Letter.

In other IBA news, we were thrilled to have been announced the winner of the CFI Best Aviation Advisory Firm United Kingdom award for 2017. We received great feedback from the judges, to read the full report click here.

Have a great week.

Best regards,
Phil Seymour
